Sometimes the truck will not stay idle when I start?
I have a 99 Dodge Dakota truck 3.9 V6 and occasionally when I go to start, begin but will not stay idle. I'm going under the hood and disconnect the – negative battery cable and wait a minute I connect the battery terminal and the truck starts and works fine until the next day or two, then i repeat the process of eliminating cable – battery negative. No dash lights, or check Engine lights come on. It's frustrating and become a pain. Do you have ideas.
You could have something as simple as a weak battery. With a battery weak during startup, the voltage will drop below the PCM 9VDC and memory be erased causing the PCM to make an idle relearn that can cause death. You could have a dirty or defective IAC (idle air control) motor. The first thing to do is get the battery tested and if it's OK, then make sure your battery connections are clean and safe. If evidence of weak battery replacement. Try this first and go from there. I hope this help!
